There are significant differences between PTZ and EPTZ cameras (or Webcam) . But it's hard to find a specific definition. Even videoconferencing camera dealers are confused, so what's the difference?
First, let's find the acronym. As you may know, PTZ stands for "Pan Tilt Zoom" . The ePTZ is "digital Pan Tilt Zoom"
"PTZ" refers to a specific type of camera hardware. The PTZ camera uses a motor to physically adjust the camera's target and zoom. The user can remotely control the camera's rotation and optical & digital zoom.
Technically, "EPTZ" refers to software functions rather than hardware. The camera that uses the EPTZ does not physically move. Users can still digitally scale and navigate the camera's viewing area. These cameras aren't always labeled as EPTZ -- most people just refer to them as digital zoom.
Essentially, they are just two different ways of controlling the camera's view. Neither is a strictly "better" solution. Each has its own strengths and weaknesses. These are some of the most important differences:
Visible Area
PTZ cameras can cover a very large area. Not only can they be tilted up and down, they can usually rotate 355 or 360 degrees, whereas the ePTZ camera typically has a 60-130 degree horizontal view.
Zoom
PTZ cameras use optical zoom, so image quality is not affected by zoom. If you zoom in on a 5 megapixel camera to the farthest point, you can still have a 5 megapixel image.
With the Eptz, everything is digital. When you zoom in, the image is pixelated because you are actually stretching the original image. If magnified 4 times, the resolution of the image will be effectively reduced 4 times. To compensate for this, we offer higher resolution fixed cameras, such as the AVC10 or 4K ePTZ camera.
Price
PTZ cameras use stepper motor or worm wheel worm, the cost is higher than ePTZ cameras, so the price of PTZ video conference camera is often higher than ePTZ Video Conference Camera
